Happy baking (and eating!), Cups 'N' Cakes by Monica Inside the store The Farmer’s Market is running just up the road in Kirkcaldy today, but I am here in the shop at 20 Links Street. That got me thinking about the differences between working at the Farmer’s Market and the shop. The first is that I am warm and dry in the shop. On a day like today, I must say that is a big plus. The other side of that equation though is that being in the shop is a much lonelier experience. At the market I am surrounded by all my buddies and there are always people milling about, many of them stopping by for a chat and to buy some cakes. So, a call out to all my regular customers - don’t forget to come on down to 20 Links Street to say hello and get your goodies. Here in the shop, I tend to have a wider range of baked goods - of course always amazing Cakes and Cupcakes, Whoopie Pies and Chocolate Brownies and I normally have some special deals. Right now I’ve got a great range of Cupcakes including White Peanut Butter, Banana, Milk and Cookies, Raspberry Jam and Salted Caramel. Strawberry and Cream or Raspberry Whoopie Pies and always a crowd pleaser our signature Chocolate Brownies - Triple Fudge or Maltesers. Come see the full range on offer for yourself. I also have breakfast muffins and bagels, hot soup and a roll for lunch and fresh brewed coffee, tea or hot chocolate available all day. I even have limited seating! What’s not to love! So, enjoy your time and the market, then swing by the shop at 20 Link Street. I’m here until 4.00 with a warm welcome and some delicious cakes. Oreo Cookie Brownie Happy Tuesday Cupcakers! I'm pretty new to this blogger thing, so bear with me as I develop my blogging skills. Over the past several weeks, I've spent quite a bit of time researching, reviewing, and practising new flavour combinations for my cupcakes and brownies. Of course I'm a Pinterest junkie like many others, and I will admit I get quite a few baking ideas from there. Now, I'm not a standard recipe kinda girl, so I mix things up a bit and put my stamp on any existing recipe that's not my original creation. As I've mentioned on numerous occasions, I cook by taste and not by exact measurements, which gives every customer a unique experience of their cupcakes. Yes, they're all Yummy!!! As a Market Stall holder I've learned every market attracts a different group of customers, and what sells really well at one market may not sell as well at another. Living in Scotland the cupcake craze is starting to really take off, and being an American I have some really far out cupcake flavours some of which were not very popular here. But that all changed when I introduced them to my customers and now some of those flavours are taking off; French Toast, American Breakfast, Sweet & Salty, and Caramel Apple Pie to name a few. I'm always looking for new ways to shake things up, so last week I decided to take my favourite Oreo cookies and put them in Brownies. Why hadn't I thought of this before? Not sure, but they were absolutely delicious and sold like wild fire at the market. White Chocolate, Lemon and Coconut Blondie I also made a White Chocolate Lemon and Coconut Blondie, and oh yummy. I'm not even a coconut lover but I couldn't get enough. This week I've decided since Maltesers is a really big seller for me, and S'mores is another one of my favourites, that I'm going to incorporate them in a brownie recipe and see how that sells at the market. Hopefully, they will go over like the Oreo cookie did or better. Cakes have been around since the beginning of time, and so has alcohol.
For generations rum-infused cakes and desserts have been common throughout the Caribbean and America. Today liquor infused cakes are more popular than ever, and now I have started experimenting with beer, wine, and frankly anything with a kick! Baking is fun combined with a little experimenting and you can create some magical flavours. I absolutely love to bake, so researching existing flavour combinations and coming up with a few of mine has been fantastic! It’s a balance to get the right mix of ingredients and alcohol, which can be challenging for someone who does not stick to the measuring rule. However, I have one rule I stand by, and that is I will never sell a customer anything I would not eat myself. So all my cakes are tried and tested before it leaves my shop. |
